The Borgias

I thought The Borgias would just be like The Tudors, but it's not, oddly enough. It plays out a bit more like The Godfather (which makes sense because Mario Puzo based the Corleones on the Borgias in the first place). There's more emphasis on the family in this series, whereas The Tudors was pretty much all about Henry (I always found that annoying- they could very well have covered the reigns of Henry's children too). I'm glad Neil Jordan's the showrunner for this series. I loved Michael Collins and Breakfast On Pluto and I knew he'd make a good job of it.

The settings are quite good and the cast is excellent; I was quite tickled to see Derek Jacobi and a couple of other actors I'd seen in other tv shows. No one's nearly as hammy as JRM was as Henry VIII. ;p

And Jeremy Irons. Oh, be still my beating heart. Sexiest Pope ever.

Re: The Borgias

Jeremy Irons can make ANYTHING sexy as all hell. Mm om nom nom :-)

I wondered if the Irishness of The Tudors made them focus on the Irish actor more, or if JRM just turned into a total diva during the production, LOL.

Neil Jordan as showrunner *is* good news.
