26-year-old actor Matt Smith was anointed as the eleventh Doctor Who this week. If you were in charge of casting, who would you cast as your ideal Doctor and why?

Richard E. Grant. Obviously!

(....Yes, I am that predictable.)

But seriously, REG has already played the Doctor twice, in two very different ways. He played the sexed-up Doctor in Curse of the Fatal Death (Julia Sawalha would make a fantastic companion, while I'm in charge of casting....), and then he played the cool, calm Shalka Doctor (and he'd have to have android!Master as his companion, obviously). And considering the Moff wrote the former, I'm sure they'd work together quite fantastically.

He jogs and stays fit, so I'm sure despite being over fifty he could do all that running and kicking down doors and all that other ass-kicking that the Doctor does too- he managed to do My Fair Lady for two months, six shows a week without any huge problems. And though no casting choice in DW is going to happen without wank, I'd like to think that there would be less 'Bawwwwwww!' in the fandom over an older Doctor.

Even if you were going to look at this casting on a purely superficial level, it's still Withnail playing the Doctor. Which only seems fair, considering Marwood ended up playing Eight.

Current Mood: geeky geeky
Current Music: Grafton Primary- Relativity

A while ago, a fan-club I'm in ran a series of cartoons entitled "Withnail and Who" in its quarterly magazine.
