Sydney - Vox Audita Perrit, Literra Scripta Manet.... — LiveJournal
The heard word is lost, the written letter remains...
I'll say this first: I can't stand Sydney. Sorry to those flisters who live there, but three days in the city was enough for me. Part of me wishes that My Fair Lady had been in Melbourne, but I still enjoyed myself.

So yeah. Bought a stack of books at a few bookshops- didn't find relating to my thesis (it's getting a bit late for that anyway), but I am fast accumulating a stack of books to read over the summer. Found a biography of Francis of Assisi I hadn't seen before and another biography focussing on Thomas More and his daughter Margaret. Oh, and David Thewlis' novel, 'The Late Hector Kipling'. Actors don't always make good novelists, but I was like 'oooh, David Thewlis!' and am taking a chance on it. And I also have a nice black leather briefcase satchel for my laptop- it was rather expensive (Coach), but I'll get years of use out of it. Managed to get to the antiquities museum at the Uni of Sydney- I watched a hilarious silent movie about the last days of Pompeii, which was mainly lulzy because of the overacting- and the Monet and impressionist exhibition at the Art Gallery, which was also very enjoyable.

Anyway. My Fair Lady, right? Spent the entire performance quietly squeeing over REG. When he was actually singing (as opposed to reciting) his voice was surprisingly good, and it's quite obvious that he's loving playing Henry Higgins. He was all energetic, jumping around the stage and saying his lines with great relish. And the Henry/Eliza relationship was definitely played up; he had fabulous chemistry with Taryn Fiebig- she plays Eliza, and she more than holds her own against REG- and their dialogue was pretty charged with it. There was a strong supporting cast too, so overall I really loved it. I'm kind of hoping there'll be a cast recording, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, dives? There'll be something for you in the mail soon. ;) And I think I might scan the stills of REG in the theatre programme and post them on vintage_meat, once I've got some more thesis work done.

Current Mood: busy busy
Current Music: Lark Rise to Candleford
