Jane Eyre/Christmas/BBC are awesome
First Christmas card arrived on Friday! Thankyou Karen! :D

Finally got around to watching Jane Eyre over the weekend. Not bad at all, I though. Toby Stephens made a very good Rochester, he and Ruth Wilson had wonderful chemistry together. Rather concerned by my friend Kim's gushing that Toby Stephens was hot though (well to be fair, she is entering into grade 12 last year and is preparing to study Jane Eyre for English). I thought he was just unattractive enough to be Rochester! To each his own, I suppose...

Vicar of Dibley Christmas special this week! With Richard Armitage! Took them bloody long enough to screen it here, but anyway. Also recorded The Virgin Queen from cable again onto the hard drive recorder. In the absence of a dvd release anywhere in the near future, I thought I would burn it to a dvd. Have to find a DVD-R that can hold more than two hours though. Ordering the dvd from overseas would be an option, if there was a way of hacking our particular dvd player to play multi-region dvds. The only solution I've found is to buy a chipped remote, which is sort of out of the question presently.

I've gotten a lot of Christmas shopping out of the way in the past week, though going into the city to do it is an absolute nightmare- the sheer number of people is so offputting. Lots of ideas about what I want though- top of the list is Nicholas Ostler's Ad Infinitum: A Biography of Latin. And series three of Doctor Who, obviously! For more unrealistic wants, I badly would like a new bookcase (since the one I got a couple of years ago is now overflowing), but there would be nowhere to put it. Sigh. And no, I don't want to sell any books to make room on the shelves, before you make that suggestion. ;p

In other news, BBC One have just released their press pack for the new shows coming in Christmas/New Year, and there is some fantastic stuff that I'm itching to see.

Besides Doctor Who and Ashes to Ashes (I sadly can't comment on it until I see series two of LoM ;p), there is a drama with Martin Shaw playing a priest (Apparitions), and 'Lark Rise to Candleford', the book of which I haven't read, but might because the tv adaptation has Dawn French and Julie Sawalha in it. On the fence about the new Sense & Sensibility adaptation, because I still love the Ang Lee/Emma Thompson adaptation so much. I really can't imagine David Morrissey filling the role of Colonel Brandon as well as Alan Rickman did. :/

Hotel Babylon is listed too, with a rather gorgeous publicity shot and a list of the guest stars. John Barrowman and Alan Davies are named, which I'm rather pleased about. ALSO: Alexandra 'Lucy Saxon' Moen is joining the cast as the hotel's PR woman. And there's a new deputy manager who's being played by a guy I haven't really heard of. But anyway! Hugely excited about what's coming up in a few months.

Current Mood: awake awake

All that TV sounds really cool. I must have a look at the BBC site. Although I share your reservations about S&S.

Are you working/busy during next week? Suze and I are thinking about seeing a film?

Next week I'll be free Monday and Wednesday. And the weekend, obviously.

Your card arrived yesterday afternoon too. Thanks! :)
