We watched I, Claudius in Ancient History today. Ah, I love researching Roman emperors, esp. the Julio Claudians. John Hurt is too cool as Caligula. I think I'm going to add him to my interests.

(Tiberius and Caligula talking about Macro)
Tiberius: Do you know him personally?
Caligula: No, but I've slept with his wife several times.

Ah yes, enjoyable, witty and by far the coolest madman to grace the screen. Oh yes, and Derek Jacobi (whom I am seeing in two weeks on stage in The Hollow Crown) is cool too (that was for your sake, Caroline).

Current Mood: busy busy
Current Music: Bizet- Carmen Suite

Hehheheeh...that Caligula/Macro exchange used to be one of my email signatures for a long time. It's such a classic line. Just as good are, "They say a snake bit her once...and died." -Germanicus (on Livia). And then that excellent scene where Augustus has called all the men in, asking them if they have slept with Julia, and then angrily shouts, "Is there anyone in Rome who has NOT slept with my daughter?"

As you can tell, I have watched the 13 wonderful episodes of "I, Claudius" about 10 times, and have the whole thing memorized. *sigh* I love young DJ...he's just too cute for words. That was the role that got me hooked on him.
