SO. STEPHEN FRY WAS AWESOME. And yes, it demands caps. Show was supposed to be 2 hours, but he rabbited on for a bonus forty minutes without realizing- yay! It wasn't a comedy show as such, but there were a lot of laughs- he talked about a variety of things, all related to him in some way. Some of the anecdotes I'd read in 'Moab is my Washpot'- going to boarding school, spending time in prison, his love of the 3 Ws- Wodehouse, Wilde and Waugh. He also talked about his depressive episodes and the story of how he first met Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie, which I imagine will probably be in volume 2 of his memoirs which is out later in the year. He was very humble in his conversation, and quite amazed that so many Australians had turned out just to see him on stage, bless. Well worth the plane tickets- I can only hope that he might consider Brisbane the next time he's down this way.

Saw the Tim Burton retrospective at ACMI as I'd hoped to as well- also quite awesome. There was an exhibition of European Masters on at the NGV too, but I ran out of when I go back in September (going down with the parental unit for the AFL Grand Final- hoping St Kilda will be one of the teams, but not likely if they don't start winning again...) that'll be on the agenda too. Canvassed the many bookshops of Melbourne, but actually didn't find anything I wanted. :/ Thought about buying 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter', but decided against it for the time being (anyone want to recommend it?).

Sherlock was so good, I've watched the first ep twice and I think I'm going to have to watch it again after posting, it was that amazing. It is not on the same level as the Jeremy Brett series, but Benedict Cumberbatch has the ascetic look down, and Martin Freeman....well, I'm disturbed because I thought he was kind of cute (I want to see more of 2010!Watson being a ~ladies man~, all bromancing with Holmes aside). Have to wait until my day off to see episode two, so I'm going to be on the edge of my seat for it by then. Collapse )

All hay feverish at the moment, for unknown reasons. :/ My aunt said I should go to the doctor and get an allergy test, but I heard it involves needles and I'm not enthusiastic about that. Will persist with the anti-histamines and hope I won't be a red-eyed dripping mess tomorrow.
