The heard word is lost, the written letter remains...
Good morning, 2006
For new year's eve, I went to a party at my friend Brendan's. I actually wasn't planning on staying until midnight, but then he produced his Popetown tape and we watched episodes until about 11:50.

For those who don't know it, Popetown's a cartoon written by Mackenzie Crook (AKA Gareth in The Office and Ragetti in PotC) set during a papacy where the Pope's a whiny little brat who requires minding from a harried priest (Father Nicholas) and a nun with her head in the clouds (Sister Marie). And then there's the three cardinals (one of whom is voiced by Little Britain's Matt Lucas) who are dead set on becoming wealthier than Oprah and lusting for money at every turn. As you can imagine, the real Popetown Vatican doesn't like it at all (in fact, I think they banned it from screening in the UK? It was on cable here.), but I thought it was quite funny. However, I'm one of those people that likes mocking her church on occasion, so it's a matter of your own beliefs and opinions I guess. There was this great scene where they had the Hokey-Pokey song in the background, except it was being sung like a Gregorian chant! XD For some reason, that really killed me and I want to hear the whole thing without the dialogue over it.

Anyway, getting back on track. Stayed at Brendan's for new year's, mainly because I had no way of getting home. I read in the paper yesterday that there were supposed to be 100 extra taxis out last night. In any case, I didn't manage to get one, even after pre-booking it earlier in the evening to pick me up at 12:15. It was 2:00 before I was at my wit's end and decided to give up the ghost and take Brendan's offer to stay over.

It was at this point that I thought that I should've stayed home and watched the Elton John concert on tv with a glass of Kilkenny cream and milk instead of going out for the night, but I did have a lovely time. There was good food, good company and good conversation.

So, I did have a happy new year, but I don't think I'll be going out for NYE again anytime soon. I've had about two hours of sleep, but I'm not feeling tired right now. I'm thinking I probably should go to mass, but that might be when fatigue decides to catch up with me. Ah, decisions, decisions.

Anyway, I hope everyone on my flist has an especially stress-free new year! :) And that when it comes to the crunch, you can find a taxi when you need one.

Edit: I also want to mention to the Tennant fans reading, if you can get your hands on his appearance on BBC's Big Quiz that was on last week, it's really funny. Particularly since Jonathan Ross(?) and Rob Brydon (who I'd like to see more of on tv here) seem to be having a 'Who can flirt with David best?' competition going on. :D
