Vox Audita Perrit, Literra Scripta Manet....
The heard word is lost, the written letter remains...
Concerning textbooks
After my Latin exam today and the customary post-exam destress with the other students, I swung by the text book shop to pick up my text for next semester, vol. 4 of the Aeneid.

For $78, I was expecting something with gilded pages and a solid silver cover. It went something like this:

Me: *looks at Latin texts. Spies vol. 4 of Aeneid*

Vol. 4 of the Aeneid: *teeny tiny thin paperback*

Me: El wtf? o_O

I checked the booklist for Latin again, and it was indeed the book I needed. So, to recap: I paid nearly eighty dollars for a thin paperback thing. Yes, the cashier seemed quite baffled by it too.

Current Mood: surprised surprised

I've been waiting for ages to see House. Half the Americans on my flist love it. A whole new audience being introduced to the greatness of Hugh Laurie. Great, isn't it? :D

It is. An American friend told me the season finale was the best ever...but I told her she was not allowed to tell me anything about it. I want to stay spoiler free for once.

Sometimes, I wonder how much money I could scam make if I ran a textbook shop.

My dad owns one that sells largely IT books and he always has to make the point to customers shocked by the prices that it's the publishers who price the books. So it's really the publishers who get the most out of exorbitant prices. x_x

Hey guys, can anyone post on this if they are logged into livejournal? Ah well...$78 for a book that thin:s You could by a nice shirt for that:s But oh well! You need it, right? You go to the University of Queensland??? cool! I do, I'm doing arts. BUt anyway, as long as you dont have to buy too many other books along with that, I have to by and anthology on shakespeare thats going to be like 80$ + or something:S and that's just for one subject. Even the latin grammar book was cheaper than the one you had to buy:s Don't ask me how it works:S
