At long last, we're getting the Spartacus prequel! Channel 9 is broadcasting it on its digital channel Go!- I am hoping that this means we'll get the whole series without any scheduling fuckery like there was with Rome, since ratings aren't really in consideration for the digital channels just yet (half the programming on Go! is various sitcom reruns and shows that were cancelled but Channel 9 had to broadcast because they scored the screening rights).

In celebration of this unusually wise programming decision by a free-to-air channel, let's all pause for a moment and enjoy John Hannah in a toga.

Not going in with great expectations, but between Hannah and the always-fierce Lucy Lawless (and without even seeing the show, I'm sure she's going to be HBIC), I'm optimistic.

Without giving anything away about the Sherlock finale? FFFFFFFFFFFF.....I can't even finish that, I am so amazingly frustrated and gleeful at the same time. AND WE DON'T EVEN GET A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL TO SEE US THROUGH THE WILDERNESS. Also, am I the only one who wasn't really that disappointed by Moriarty? Ok, so it was a Large Ham performance, but his accent really didn't bother me. Or maybe that's because we don't get a lot of Graham Norton on television here? IDK. I do understand the comparisons between him and Simm!Master in Doctor Who though.

On weekend's recommendation, I'm going to give Tom Hollander's series 'Rev' a go next. He looks so wee and cute, and the concept (the trials and tribulations of an Anglican priest) reminds me a bit of the Barchester Chronicles. Looking forward to it!

John Hannah!

If I read correctly, you said you *haven't* seen Spartacus yet, right?

No, not yet- we get the two hour premiere tonight. I will either be ranting about the inaccuracies or squeeing at John Hannah in a tunic.

I have a sneaking suspiscion he's done Roman period drama before, but I can't remember what.....oh yeah, it was in that shitty Last Legion movie. Hope this is an improvement!

Probably be doing both!

I enjoyed The Last Legion :-x but then again I saw it when I knew almost nothing of Roman history. So it was just a fun silly movie for me!

I'm in Wellington NZ at the moment, where they have posters up for Spartacus, because it starts next weekend.

The posters say words to the effect "The men like it because of the fights, the women like it because..." and then a big picture of Spartacus himself.

I can't help thinking that the men are mostly going to like it because Lucy Lawless takes her top off. Regularly.

Modulo gender preferences, obviously.

I have heard there's a bit of les yay involved with Lucy Lawless' character, so no doubt there will be something for everyone. That's the good thing about shows set in Rome- there's enough diversity of depravity to suit all tastes. ;p

Your posts on your trip have been great- can't wait to hear what you'll be up to here!
