Oh dear, what to say...
The last two weeks can be summed up in the following smiley: D: And I have wanted to update, only to get home and be absolutely too tired to do anything but sit on the couch and read or watch tv.

In a nutshell: Had an allergic reaction to something and ended up with something nasty (which has just about gone now, thank goodness), and then there has been the usual fun of working in a bookshop at the beginning of a new semester. I hate accounting students so much at the moment- they insist on all coming into our tiny shop at the same time and crowding up the place and even though I'm not claustrophobic the whole thing is just blah. The TAFE teachers come and go as they please (that is to say, they seem to quit on very short notice and then some other already-overworked faculty member has to do the job), and so students never really seem to know what they need for their course. Compare this to QUT, who we also provide books for: we get a list of titles for each course two months before the semester begins, we get enrolment numbers (so we can order quantities according to the number of students enrolled) and nobody ever changes their mind about anything. *sigh*

I've received an offer from Charles Sturt University to do their graduate certificate course in information studies. In light of that, I'm considering putting off my Hong Kong trip until the middle of the year even though I would love a break before Easter. I will probably enrol and see how much assessment there is, and then make my decision, since I really need to do this course and I've put it off long enough already- if nothing else, the last two weeks have been proof of how fed up I am with working in retail, and by extension in an institution which is full of bureaucracy and where essentially nothing gets done unless it's under duress.

On the upside, I have found a new fandom (or lack thereof) to love: Murdoch Mysteries. Currently waiting for the dvd of series two to come, but Detective Murdoch is my current tv boyfriend, if only because he is the prettiest guy I've seen on tv in forever (Case in point!). My season 2 dvd came in the mail today, so I'm going to have much fun watching that.

Oh, and Lent started today! 57,600 minutes of no unnecessary shopping, chocolate, etc. Assuming that the distance education doesn't take up too much of my time, I'm going to resume a translating St Augustine's letters- who knows, it might even help me get back into the swing of things academically...

Saw Clash of the Titans trailer. Looks quite lulzy, but will probably end up seeing it because Liam Neeson is playing Zeus, which is like Best Casting Ever because he's going to make Zeus look like a magnificent bastard, as opposed to the usual arsehole god he is. Also, Polly Walker is in it, and I am quite fascinated to see how she plays Cassiopeia. STILL lamenting that Agora has never gotten a release here either, btw. Just in case you were wondering. *grumble*

Current Mood: contemplative contemplative
Current Music: Florence & the Machine- Rabbit Heart

Hope you're well recovered now - these allergic reactions are never fun.

Regarding Clash of the Titans, I just want to see Liamo being EPIC and saying things like "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!" And hopefully this Kraken will be more epic and relevant than the one in POTC, lol.

I have no doubt it'll be a more epic Kraken- I was very impressed with Pegasus in the trailer!

While we're on the Olympians- did you see/are you seeing Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief? I'm tossing up that one because Kevin McKidd is playing Poseidon and I'm hoping for some more tunic action. ;p

It sounds like they got the mythology fairly right - with the exception of Hades - and a few of my fellow Classicists from UCD all enjoyed it, so I think I will. I can always just enjoy Sean Bean in a kilt :-)
