Writer's Block: Comedians as Journalists
Distrust of the media has grown to the point where many people only trust the news if it comes from a comedian. Who do you trust more: Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart?

Oh, you can't pick one over the other! I trust them equally, largely because they almost seem to be better at calling out politicians and other public figures on their bullshit than the mainstream media sometimes. I think it's a little sad that satirical news shows like TDS and TCR have become more dependable than regular news, but at the same time some of those people watching might not watch news otherwise. It's a double-edged sword, I guess? I enjoy Stewart and Colbert not just because they mock the politicians and public figures, but also the way the news networks cover these people. Let's face it, the US election and the media coverage of it has gotten so crazy that you need humour to deal with it, right?

Current Mood: thoughtful thoughtful
Current Music: The Colbert Report. Surprise surprise!

you can't say one above the other. They're cut from the same cloth, or as Stephen said at the Emmys "Same DNA, differen't flavors."

Also at the Emmys backstage when a reporter asked Jon how they can still call themselves "fake" news when they're more trusted and respected than the mainstream nowadays. Jon said that if they didn't call themselves "fake" then they wouldn't get away with what they do and say.

They don't have to worry about journalistic integrity, so they don't have to pretend to be non-bias, and can't get called out for it. Unlike say...Fox News that claims to be non-partisan and "Just the Facts" but it's painfully partisan and is has assholes like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly around claiming that their opinions are the cold facts.

God, I love them. They're the best thing to happen for my country. And proof that there is something right with America. They say the things they do about the government and its leaders, and are still alive.
